The Orson Welles Estate – A Storied Hollywood Hideaway with Panoramic City-to-Sea Views

Tucked high above the city on its own private peninsula in the Hollywood Hills, this extraordinary estate is a rare blend of rich history, cinematic charm, and timeless serenity. Set within a gated compound on expansive grounds, the home offers breathtaking views from the skyline to the Pacific Ocean—and a level of privacy seldom found this close to the heart of Los Angeles.

Originally built by Charlie Chan actor Sidney Toler, the estate later became the hillside haven of Orson Welles, who penned scenes of Citizen Kane here while living with screen icon Rita Hayworth. Over the years, it was passed to Peter Lorre, who famously entertained Humphrey Bogart and his inner circle. Visionary actress Ida Lupino later called it home, followed by legendary songwriter Paul Williams, who wrote some of his biggest hits here, often in the company of greats like Barbra Streisand, David Bowie, and Frank Sinatra.

The Cape Cod-style residence has been lovingly preserved and thoughtfully refreshed, maintaining its historic soul while offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature and views.
